Whitney Ferguson

Whitney is a 15 year old elite Jr. gymnast who trains at Parkettes National Gymnastics Training Center in Pennsylvania, the same gym as current Sr. National Champion, Kristen Maloney. She has also trained at Dynamo Gymnastics and Cinicinnati Gymnastics Academy.

TDG: What competitions do you have coming up, and what type of finish in these meets would you be satisfied with?

Whitney: I have the Classic coming up, and the (National) Championships if I qualify, and I'd be satisfied with finishing in the top 10, hopefully top 5, but I would satisfied with the top 10.

TDG: Thus far in your career, what do you feel is the best routine you have ever performed, and why?

Whitney: My beam routine at the Seattle meet, I consider it my best routine because I have trouble getting focus back after I fall and I had fallen on both my vaults almost blowing out both of my knees and fell on a skill on bars that I had never missed and I managed to pull out the best beam routine I have done after all of that

TDG: Who is your best friend in the gymnastics world, and why?

Whitney: Probably Marie (Fjordholm), because she was at my old gym and we spent a lot of time together.

TDG: You no doubt do a lot of traveling for meets, what do you enjoy about the traveling, and what things don't you like about it?

Whitney: I like the places we go, but half the time we don't have time to do anything there, and that's what I don't like. Umm Some places are really nice and others are really bad and it is weird.. Not having my own bed... Ummm Sometimes food...

TDG: After your gymnastics career is over, what do you think you would like to do?

Whitney: I want to study Biology, I'd like to go to college at Arizona. I want to be a Biologist or Geneticist.

TDG: How do you think the U.S. team (M and W) will do at the Olympics in Sydney in the year 2000?

Whitney: They did well in 96 and all of the gymnasts have improved a lot and even though there have been injuries we are better than we were in 96 I think.

TDG: What things do you enjoy doing in your free time outside of gymnastics?

Whitney: I like to party, go to the mall or the movies, hang out with friends, listen to music, lay out if warm weather, or just chill.

TDG: Which gymnast, past or present, do you admire the most, and why?

Whitney: I have a few, there's Kim (Zmeskal) because she came back from everything, and people thought she couldn't do it but she showed everyone that she could. And Amanda (Borden) and Jaycie (Phelps) because when I was having a hard time they were always really helpful to me.

TDG: What are your goals for the upcoming year, and what are your long term goals in the sport of gymnastics?

Whitney: For the upcoming year, I hope to make it to the (National) Championships and do well, at least place on an event. For future goals, get a college scholarship and do well on an international level.

TDG: Finally, what do you think of our site, Top Dawg Gymnastics?

Whitney: I think it's a really good site!
